The Wild Atlantic Way is a fetchingly titled tourist trap—the product of a campaign designed to lure travelers across the island from Dublin and onto the western coast. It’s a land of undeniable beauty, but of the 1,000+ attractions along this 1,500-mile route, only a handful of sites truly earn the descriptor wild.
Enniscrone is one of them.
Even among Ireland’s legendary dunes, Enniscrone stands apart, with skyscraping pillars of sand and grass framing 18 epic golf holes. Golf has been played among these dunes for over a century, and a full redesign of the course in 1970 by famed Irish designer Eddie Hackett brought the golf on the ground up to par with its spectacular setting.
During the Broken Tee Society’s first trip to Ireland in the summer of 2024, BTS member and former Oklahoma State golfer Brad Gehl took 14 clubs and a +2 handicap into the dunes in search of a low round. Sit back and enjoy.
