The Golfer’s Journal is pleased to invite you to
Columbia Country Club
September 30, 2024 | Chevy Chase, MD
A Capital Affair
For more than a century, DC’s golfing cognoscenti has found its way to the devilish and spectacular Columbia Country Club. Just a mile outside the District’s limits, this Walter Travis gem drips with history both golf and otherwise. Columbia hosted the 1921 US Open, 2003 US Junior and 2021 Girls Junior won by Rose Zhang, who still holds the course record of 62. Meanwhile, presidents from Harding to Nixon to Obama have strode Columbia’s turbulent fairways. This September, join the Broken Tee Society as we add our name to Columbia’s storied legacy.

A Warm Farewell
Before last summer, Columbia had only had three head professionals in more than 100 years of existence: 1908 U.S. Open champ Fred McLeod, former PGA pro of the year Bill Strausbaugh, and Bob Dolan Jr. On the eve of Dolan’s stepping down after 30 years of leadership, we caught up with him to talk golf, life, wisdom and the value of getting out of the shop and onto the course.
